How UF Membrane Works

UF (Ultrafiltration) membranes use a semi-permeable hollow-fibre structure with pore sizes of 0.01–0.1 micron to physically block suspended solids, bacteria, and large viruses while allowing water and dissolved minerals to pass through. This is a purely physical barrier process — no coagulants or flocculants are required to achieve clarity, making UF a low-chemical, low-maintenance filtration stage.

Grafil UF membranes, supplied by QuaSys Inc., are built with PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) fibres chosen for mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and long service life under repeated backwash cycles.

UF vs RO: What's the Difference?
