How Grafil UF Membrane Works
Grafil UF (Ultrafiltration) membranes use a semi-permeable hollow-fibre structure with a 0.02 micron pore size (ultrafiltration generally covers 0.01–0.1 micron) to physically block suspended solids, bacteria, and large viruses while allowing water and dissolved minerals to pass through. Unlike chemical treatment, UF filtration is a purely physical barrier process — no coagulants or flocculants are required to achieve clarity, which makes it a low-chemical, low-maintenance filtration stage.
Grafil UF membranes are made from PolyNorbit, a permanently hydrophilic polymer chosen for low fouling, easy cleaning and long service life.
UF vs RO: What's the Difference?
UF removes suspended solids, bacteria, and large viruses down to 0.01–0.1 micron but lets dissolved salts and minerals pass through, so it does not reduce TDS. RO uses a much finer membrane that also rejects dissolved salts, which is why UF is commonly installed as a pre-treatment stage ahead of RO — it protects the RO membrane from fouling rather than replacing it. Use UF alone when the goal is clarity and pathogen removal from an already low-TDS source; add RO after UF when the water also needs desalination. For pore size, removal capability, and a full side-by-side, see our UF vs MBR Membrane guide and our FAQ section below.

Frequently Asked Questions — Grafil UF Membrane
Are you an authorized Grafil UF membrane supplier in India?+
Yes. QuaSys Inc. supplies Grafil UF membrane modules across India, with model selection, technical documentation and support. Call +91 95408 15659 for a quote.
Which Grafil UF models are available?+
Grafil UF modules are available as UF 4040 (9 m2), UF 6040 (26 m2), UF 8040 (37 m2), UF 8060 (55 m2), UF 10050 (75 m2), UF 10060 (100 m2) and UF 10080 (120 m2). We size the number and type of modules to your flow and feed water quality.
What is the price of Grafil UF membrane in India?+
Price depends on the model, the number of modules and whether you need a complete skid with housing, piping and controls. Share your flow rate and feed water source and we will send a specification-based quote.
What is the difference between UF and RO membrane?+
UF removes suspended solids, colloids, bacteria and viruses but lets dissolved salts pass. RO also rejects dissolved salts. UF is often installed ahead of RO to protect it from fouling.
What water sources is Grafil UF suitable for?+
Drinking water treatment, RO pre-treatment, surface and borewell water purification, and tertiary treatment of STP/ETP effluent for reuse.
How is a Grafil UF membrane cleaned?+
Grafil states its UF membranes need no air and no chemical additive for backwash. Periodic clean-in-place (CIP) is done as the feed water requires. We provide a cleaning schedule with the supply.
